MEDALS OF MERIT FOR SCOUT OFFICERS

The’ award of medals of merit to Alajor Al. R. Bowuey and Commissioner A. E. Berry. New Plymouth, for services rendered to the Boy Scout movement has been approved by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall. in his capacity as Dominion Chief Scout. Alajor Downey has been some 2o years with the movement, having been a commissioner in Auckland, in the Hutt A’alley and in the AVellington district. He. is one of the well-known figures in scouting in New Zealand, and his influence is felt not only among the present boys in the scout movement, but has been carried overseas by hundreds of young soldiers who had their initial training in selfreliance under Alajor Downey’s eye. Air. Berry joined one of the earliest founded troops in 'the Dominion and has been very closely associated with scouting ever since. Since 1916 he,has held warrants as assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, and commissioner, for many years in the Auckland district, and latterly in New Plymouth. Air. Berry has a notable record in scouting and his good influence has been brought to bear on hundreds of boys who have passed through his hands 'a the last 27 years.
