The fat sheep entry rose from 270 u last week to 5000, which again included attractive lines of southern sheep, both ewes and wethers. 'J hough the bulk or the offering showed quality, there was the usual sprinkling of unfinished sheep, and most ot these were in the early pen?. Consequently there was not much lite about the first two alleys, and_ there was an all-round difop of from o/- to «/-, specially for ewes, but as the sale Progressed the class improved and over the latter part there was very little change compared with the high prices ruling for the best sheep a week ago. The highest price for ewes was 57/7 for a pen or heavilly woolled sheep from the south, and a truck from North Canterbury sold from 49/- to 56/1. In the wether section a line of 56 made 45/7 to 64/1, the latter equalling last week’s peak figure, and another line made from 57/1 to 59/7. A com signment of shorn two-tooth wethers solo exceptionally well from 37/7 to ,44/1. With another small entry, prices for fat cattle showed a rise on the very high market last week. The entry of 331 head was insufficient for the demand, particularly as a large proportion were of lighter weight and quality than a week ago. Many of tlie steers were little better than forward stores, but nevertheless sold round about £l5. Priinest beef improved by up to 40/- a head and medium by up to 35/- on last week’s rates. The best beef made from 64/- to 70/- per 1001 b.. good 60/- to 63/-, medium 51/- to 58/-. ordinary to' IS'-, inferior to 40/-; best heifer beef to W’/-, good 55/- to 59/-, ordinary to »>/-; best cow beef to 53/-, good 40/- to 49/*, ordinary Io 42/-. all per 1001 b. There was n small entry of porkers mid the quality was not np to recent standards. Competition wns again keen, prices remaining at fully up to schedule rates. The chopper yarding was again heavy, bidding being spirited throughout, and last week's good prices were fully maintained. In tlie bacon section tlie sale was the best for several weeks, values being higher by 3/- to 4/- a head. The average price per lb was B}d. to 9jd.
