Red Cross Cafeteria And Transport Workers

Described by the voluntary helpers as becoming “busier and busier,” the Red Cross cafeteria at the Wellington hospital is supplying a welcome service to outpatients. The comfort aud cheer that a cup of hot tea, coffee, or cocoa gives is appreciated by the patients, as they wait their turn for attention. More than 2,840 cups were served during the past month, from the cheerful corner in the outpatients department, where each day a team of voluntary Red Cross workers attends, prepares the drinks and serves (bcm, with fresh wheatgerm bread and butter, or buns. M’iien one realizes the waiting which it is so often impossible to avoid in this department, the . weariness and ofteu anxietv of patients, the boon that this service of the Red Cross cafeteria is to the general public can be appreciated. A cafeteria committee from the M’ellington sub-centre of the society is 'in charge. Other workers who continue to find their time increasingly full, are members of the Red Cross women’s, transport service of the M’elling'lon city sub-centre. Calls for services x-ecently have been made from the R.S.A., ALMLC.A., and 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Association for the transport of sick and wounded men, including the evacuation of a hospital ship and the bi-weekly outings for convalescents are still necessary. Fifteen cars helped to take men to the entertainment for returned men organized on August 28 by the R.S.A. Alembers will again compete for the Dunn Cup and a preliminary selection has already been made.
