Brown Outpoints Foote In a thrilling professional lightweight boxing contest, staged by the Mutt valley Boxing Association at the Labour Hau, Petone, last night, billy Brown (Blenlieiuii outpointed Harold Jfootc (yeniugton). It was one of the best professional bouts for a long time. Both men are tast. and there was rapid action in every one ot the 10 rounds. They indulged in some close work in the second round, and in tins they broke even. They mixed it freely >n the third session, both attacking in turn, but sound defensive work prevented any damage being done. It was a willing contest, and the crowd was well pleased with the fire both men were putting into their work. Brown took the aggressive in the Uttli round, and bad Foote hanging on to weather a strong two-handed attack. Brown was warned for a kidney punch. Footes nose showed ■ signs of wear tu the sixth, in which Brown kept on the attack, and landed a solid right-cross to the bead. Though olb. lighter, Foote appeared to be (he stronger of the pair, and several times bored his opponent on to the ropes, in tlie eighth Foote missed with a right uppercut, which nearly reached the ceiling. Brown scored with a succession of ieithooks to the head in the ninth, and followed this up by scoring with both hands to the head twice in rapid succession. They staged a grandstand linish, which had the crowd in a fever of excitement. Foote had the better of the whirlwind last round, but he was too far behind on points for this to secure him the verdict.

Mr. L. Stewart refereed. Amateur Preliminaries. J. Leary (Galley’s), 8.10. outpointed Bucknell (Heretnunga), 8.11. in a thrilling contest, in which riglit down fighting spirit carried the day. Brown (Railways). i.O, beat Braddock (Heretannga), 0.10, by a technical knock-out in tlie third round of a hard-hitting contest, in which the loser showed great gameness. Clark (Railways), 10.2. showed■ good footwork in outpointing R. Todd (Tracey’s). 10.3, in a willing bout. Nation (Railways), ti.fi. was too experienced for C. Palmer (Tracey’s), 0.9, in a brisk little flyweight clash. -M. Cutter (Crowley’s), 8.13. outpointed Leach (Galley’s), 8.13. by virtue of doing nearly all the leading. L. Philp (Railways), 8.7, outpointed Kavanovicli (Air Force). 8.1.0, in a fast bout, in which liotli men did .some nimble side-stepping, and covered the whole of the ring. Two clever members from the Railways’ gymnasium, Bos Murphy and Les Uptnney. gave a bright exhibition, display.! in which Mumhy’s laneelike left was.seen to great advantage. Mr. A. W.
