NO WORK AT TRENTHAM

12 Inches Of Rain This Month

(By

St. Simon.)

There was no work at Trent ham cn Saturday as the bottom eud of the track in the vicinity of the nine furlongs was flooded. The members’ car paddock and the exercise yard round the scraping sheds and sand rolls were also under water. The heavy rain which feu throughout the city on Friday night was also experienced at Trentham and the drainage system was not equal to coping with the phenomenal amount of water. .Measurings taken Iby the course superintendent, Mr. N. Hayley, show’ that up till yesterday 1inches of rain have fallen at Trentham since September 1, which is three times the average for the month. As a consequence teams trained on this course are all backward in their preparations-for the spring meetings. Riding at Hastings. N. Vaughan, who was prevented by sickness from riding at the Wanganui meeting, has ibeen engaged to ride viglow, Leiglion’s Glory ' and Tideover at the Hawke’s Bay meeting this week.

Gay Talkie, a good winner in India. and General Latour, sire of Te Kara, Karapoti and Gallio. At the price paid for him Tidemint might prove a very cheap l horse.

M'itle’n First Foal. ' .Mittie, one of the good winners for w. II Hume from bis good mare Horomea, has arrived at Trentham with, her colt weanling by Foxbridge which will be prepared for the January sales. He expected to have the Golden Eaale—Horomea gelding down from Levin by now. but his arrival has been delayed till new vards are built on the property and the sodden nature of the ground has prevented this from being done. So far a name has not been claimed for this relative to Mittie. Lady Tinkle and Deolali.
