OBITUARY

Mr. W. H. Edwards

Mr. William Henry Edwards, an old Wellington identity, died in Auckland last Wednesday. Mr. Edwards, who was born in Tasmania, came to Wellington iu 1863, and joined his father, Mr. It. 11. Edwards, in business as. a. builder and contractor in 1874, remaining in Wellington till his retirement in 1930, when he changed his place of residence to Auckland. . During* his long residence in Wellington he watched' the place grow from a township to a thriving modern city. He remembered quite well the. days when it was a matter of some difficulty to walk round Windy Point (now better known as Stewart Dawson’s Corner). during boisterous weather when the tide was in, and also had memories of the time when the waters lapped the shore now outlined by Bond Street. He was a member of the Wellington. Racing Club and ’the Wellington Trotting Club. He leaves a widow, a son, Mr. Harold Edwards, and a daughter, Mrs. Charles Morris, both of Wellington.
