SINKING OF ROMA
LONDON, September 24. _ Italian survivors of the battleship Roma, bombed and sunk by the Germans, state that 1400 of the crew wen killed and 500 were badly burned after German planes scored a direct niu tlo Tbe Madrid correspondent, of the Associated Press of Great Britain 2, U °ev 8 survivors as saying that, the Roma exploded like a bomb and covered the sea with tons ot blazing oil. She immediately began to sink. A cruiser and five gunboats which. were escorting the Roma stopped and picked up survivors.
