Superintendent For i Ruakura iThe appointment is anonunced of Dr. C.( IP. McMeekan. iPh.D. (Cantab.), B. Asr. Sc., professor of animal husbandry, Canterbury Agricultural College, Dincii'lii, 'to the position of superintendent of the animal research station, Ruakura. J Dr. McMeekan joined the staff of Massey College as assistant lecturer in djairy industry in 1932, later being • appointed senior lecturer, and was assoc 'flted with the pig and dairy research of tie college till 1006. Dr. McMeekan titan went to England, where he worked a% the School of Agriculture, University of Cambridge, with Dr. John Hammond, and in 19S8 was awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy for his thesis on rirowtih and development. He served on staveral suib-committees of the Agricultural 'Research Council of Great Britain, d ealing with problems of pig production. Hie visited Europe on several occasions, e xamining farming and reesaroh methods i n Denmark. Holland, Sweden and Germany. In 1908-09, at the invitation of tlhe Argentine Government, Meat Board a\nd Corporation of Meat Producers, he visited the Argentine and other South American countries to examine fat lamb plroduetion in the Argentine and to judge fijit lamlbs and bacon pigs at the Palermo Exhibition. ) At the invitation of the American Society of Animal Production, Dr.' McMekan visited 'the United States of America and spent some time at the Universitlies of Missouri, lowa (Ames) and'Califfprnia, arid delivered a series of lectures, (pn his return to New Zealand he rej'oined the staff of Massey College, and i:h 1040 was appointed professor pf anii;nal husbandry at the Canterbury Agricultural College. In addition to his norJnal duties Dr. McMeekan has been Engaged iu research Work on war-time nutrition problems affecting New Zealand meat on behalf of the British Ministry of'Food. He has been a member of tilie New Zealand Herd Improvement (Council of the Dairy Board since 1939 aind president (194’2-43) of the New Zealand'Society of Animal Production. t Dr. McMeekan will take up his ap-' rtpintment at Ruakura about the middle oji October.
