NEW YORK, September 23. The recent attacks against the Marcus and Gilbert Islands are only the shape of things to come, said the commander of United States Combined Fleets, Admiral King, when addressing the American Legion Convention. Me added that the navy’s aim was to deal shattering blows to the enemy with all the weapons that could be brought, to bear, synchronized with an overwhelming assault. He emphasized the importance of the navy’s swiftly-growing air arm, which was now, he said, striking hard against enemy .bases, particularly in the Pacific.
