MR. MENZIES’ CONFIDENCE IN HIS TEAM
CANBERRA, September 23.
“Whatever our position may be in a numerical sense, we propose to fight for the things in which we believe,” said the lender of the Federal Opposition, Mr. Menzies, today. “We must be a thinking Opposition and a fighting Opposition. 1 have in mind far-reaching ideas in relation to rorganization. but the first function of the Opposition is to rethink the whole of its political ideas. “There is plenty of room outside the Socialist philosophy for a vigorous liberal programme which will give proper protection and security to the wage earner, side by side with proper incentive to enterprise. I have been much encouraged by the spirit exhibited at the party meeting. Old criticisms and differences have been put away. I am confident my team will play well.” Mr. J. S. Rosevear was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives today, unopposed. The Government’s nominee, Senator G Brown, was elected President of the Senate without opposition.
