PATRIOTIC APPEAL

Some Dissension Caused By

E.P.S. Scheme

Some dissension has arisen among Wellington patriotic workei-s as a result ot an arrangement- whereby the h.l .o. llSo undertaken to collect donations lor prisoner-of-war 'parcels. I tegular women collectors are said to have given undertakings' to suburban residents who nave already contributed that they will not be approached again within a specified peiiod. These collectors feel that the E.t.b. canvass will constitute a breach of tait.i. Last night the chairwoman of one suburban committee stated flint she and her colleagues would discontinue the work they have carried out. on behalf ol the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee if the special canvass was proceeded with. ‘lt would be a breach of faith,” she said. “We have obtained donations over,a long period by promising that the contributors will not be asked to give twice. Now someone is going over our heads. We do not blame the E.P.S.. but we will resign if the scheme goes on.” The E.P.S. organization is not taking over regular collections for patriotic pur-, poses. By special arrangement, the wardens’ group has undertaken the collection of donations promised next Tuesday evening during the patriotic telephone appeal. At. the same tune the E.P.S. tire sections have undertaken, with the assistance of other unit members and certain Home Guard personnel to carry out a liousc-to-honse canvass.
