CONFIDENCE BREACH ALLEGED
Social Security Information Revealed TELEGRAM TO PRIME MINISTER Dominion Special Service. M.ASTERTON, Seplcmber 23. The Alnsterton early settlers have taken exception to the action of the local Labour candidate, Air. Robertson, in milking public certain information regarding social security benefits obtained by some of them. It is contended that: by divulging such information, a grave breach of confidence has been committed. The following telegram has been sent to the Prime Alinister: — “Masterton early settlers protest against shameless breach of faith and of social security confidence by Alnsterton Labour member. See letter this mornings (Thursday’s) ‘Dominion.’ Facts confirmed by mayor of Alasterton, chairman of meeting. Robertson told audience of 700 that he had ascertained from Social Security Office that only 19 cut of 120 pioneers at. Alasterton Early Settlors’ centennial dinner were- not ■ receiving social security benefit. This statement involved breach of social security confidence and also misled public, who believed and were obviously meant, to believe that we were nearly all improvident paupers Jiving on social security. Actually most of us merely drew the small universal superannuation available to all over age of 65. Please reply urgently' advising whether Labour policy permits Labour candidates to break social security confidence in this way. Copy of this telegram handed to Press.”
