GERMAN TREACHERY
Denounced By Marshal Badoglio
LONDON, September 22. “The Germans have always considered us an inferior race,” said Marshal.Badoglio in a broadcast over the United Nations’ radio. “Mussolini dragged Italy into new wars which no Italian wanted and which were not warranted by the Italians’ feelings. Germany attacked our provinces, and obliged us to live on insufficient rations, which were less than those of the German people. "The Italians will not forget the dispersal of their armies for the sole object of lighting for the Germans in France, Croatia,. Greece, Crete and the Russian front. The present events show clearly that the dispersal coincided with a diabolical plan to place German divisions alongside them in order to attack our troops at an opportune moment.” Referring to the armistice, Badoglio said: “The conditions are hard, but we p must not forget that we were beaten .On the other hand, the evolution of the situation has altered a number of the clauses, and our armed reaction to the German aggression has brought us nearer Co cooperation with the Allies.” Badoglio officially defined his Government’s policy in the following eight points: — . , „ “1. The King and Royal House are the expression of the Italian people’s will. “2. The Italians do not want any more truck’ with Fascism, whether it is called republican or monarchist. “3. The armed forces have sworn loyalty to the King. “4. The Italians have not betrayed the Germans. The Italians have been betrayed by the Fascist conspiracy. The peasants and the north Italian population will not forget the tens of thousands of their sons who were sent to die in Russia or Africa in the sole interests of Germany. “5. The Germans’ behaviour after the armistice has made the Italian people’s action inevitable and has deepened the abyss between Italy and Germany. “6. The sooner the Germans are chased out of Italy the sooner Italy will be free. “7. The refugees, peasants and all the workers under the leadership of the King and his Government, will build Italy’s destiny. “8. Italy will surge from this tragedy stronger than ever if all Italians remain k uuited-und-cmifidcut.o£..yictory” —. '
