REQUEST TO SPAIN
Tangier Zone Neutrality (British Official Wireless.) (Received September 23, 8 p.m.) RUGBY, September — Britain lias informed ' Spain that she was bound to take a serious view of the use of the Tangier zone by the Get man Consul-General and nationals for unneutral activities against British jnteiebtfe, said the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Eden, in the House of Commons. Britain had iequested Spain to put an end to these abuses and ensure the maintainence pt strict neutrality in the zone. Britain was keeping the situation under constant review and it was her intention to put forward at the first suitable opportunity proposals for the future of the zone. Tlie British Government has informed General Franco that the presence of the ■Spanish Blue Division in the war against Russia is a serious.obstacle to the development of Anglo-Spanish relations. . Mr Eden said it was one ol the points made’ by the British Ambassador to Spain, Sir Samuel Hoare, in his recent interview with General Franco. Bir Samuel also directed attention to various incidents of discrimination against British interests. Air. Eden said that' the Spanish Government had undertaken to investigate these points, and he looked forward to an early improvement in the situation.
