U.S. WAR PRODUCTION
Review By Mr. Nelson (British Official Wireless.) (Received September 23, 7.45 p.m.) RUGBY, September 22. The monthly report for August on United States war production by the head of the U.S. War Production Board, Air. Nelson, shows continuing gains in virtually all categories of war materials. On a fixed dollar basis, munitions production has increased nearly 30 times since August, 1940. “In spite of production progress,’’ states the report, “we are edill short of current aircraft schedules.” Meanwhile, what is of paramount importance to the lighting forces, improved quality, hws been secured. While the gains in plane production have been sharp, the demand has increased even more sharply as a result, of intensified aerial warfare by the Allied forces and the opening up of new combat zones. Thus a further rapid increase in the volume of production and a further improvement in finality are required. “We are not relaxing our effort to meet these, including special purpose planes, the report, adds. “Deliveries of naval vessels alone reached a new peak with 284.01)0 displacement tons, representing a 40 per cent, gain over July.
