WALNUT PRICES FIXED

Prices for walnuts are dealt with by a Price Order gazetted last night. It fixes a retail ceiling price and a ceiling price for growers, together with distributors’, wholesalers’ and retailers’ margins. Only the provisions concerning traders’ margins arc effective immediately, the other provisions operating with next season’s crop. For next season's crop the maximum retail price for walnuts will be -/- per lb. throughout the Dominion. The maximum price chargeable by a grower will be 1/2 per lb., free on rail grower's station, sucks in. Those prices do not apply to the present crop, as traders still hold supplies 'bought from growers at higher prices than 1/2. Walnuts now in stock, however, cannot bo sold at prices allowing more than the margins set out in the Brice Order.
