RICCARTON SEAT

Mr. Kyle Withdraws

(Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 22.

Air. H. S. S. Kyle announces that, realizing bis candidature as an Independent in Riccarton would involve the dividing of votes opposed to Labour and would probably lead to Labour’s advantage in the Riccarton electorate, :he has decided to withdraw in favour of the National Party's official candidate, Mr. J. T. AVatts. Air. Kyle, ‘therefore, has asked all his friends and supporters in Riccartou not to vote in his favour on Saturday.

Referring to the retirement of Mr. Kyle from the Riccartou election contest, the leader of the National Party, Mr. 8. G. Holland, said in his address iu Wellington last night that Mr. Kyle felt that personal interests could not be allowed to stand in the way of the welfare of his country, and had accordingly decided to retire from the contest to give the National Party candidate a clear field. Mr. Kyle had given years of worth-while service to the people of New Zealand, and now, in the interests of the nation, good government, and progress, rather than see the non-Government vote divided, was asking those who would otherwise have supported him to support the National Party candidate.
