NEW PRICE ORDER

Kumera, Pumpkin, And

Silver Beet

Ceiling retail and wholesale prices tor pumpkins, kumeras and silver beet at the various seasons of the year are established by a price order gazetted yesterday. This enables growers, traders and consumers to know in advance what maximum prices will be ruling at any time of the year. Prices of kumeras and silver beet are controlled for the whole 12 months, but for pumpkins the control is lifted during November to February inclusive. These vegetables have Imen- subject to price control for some considerable time. There is no control over pumpkin prices during the four midsummer months, because at that time of the year they are a luxurv, available in very small quantities and' during those months ample supplies of other vegetables are on the market. The maximum retail prices per lb ; set bv the price order are as follows: —Kurnevas (North Island prices first. South island prices in parentheses): February - July, -Id. (IJd.); August-January, ml. (Old ) Silver beet (same prices both islands): February-April. 31(1.; May-Oeto-bor, 5d.: November-January, Id.
