SUDDEN DEATH ANNOUNCED

British Chancellor O£ Exchequer SIR KINGSLEY WOOD

LONDON, September 21. The death occurred today from heart failure of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Kingsley Mood. The King was immediately informed, ami the Speaker made au announcement in the House of Commons.

The son of a Wesleyan minister, he was born in ISSI and was admitted as a solicitor in 1903. He had been the Conservative member for "Woolwich West since IJIB. For many years Sir Kingsley was con-

nected with the Ministry of Health and was in charge of the Department from 1935 to 1938, having previously been Postmaster-General, 1031-35, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education in 1931. He was Secretary ot Air from 1938 till April, 1940, when ho was appointed Lord Privy Seal. A month later he' became Chancellor of the Lxchequer m the Churchill Government.
