CREW OF DREDGE PRAISED Dominion Special Service. WxYNGANUI, September 21. The promptitude with which tlie crew of the dredge Kaione put to sea in au attempt to .rescue the crew of an aeroplaiie which crashed off shore on August 24 was commended at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Rogers, said that the crew left at a quarter of an hour’s notice at 12.15 p.m., and were absent from port till i a.m. next day on a rough and hazardous trip. A letter was received from the officer in charge of the air station at which the aircraft , was based, expressing appreciation of ' the manner in which the Air liorce request for a vessel to make a search had been answered by the board and its employees. The harbourmaster, Captain R. D. Stewart, said that the request was received at noon, and be took the dredge, the only vessel available, to sea a quarter of an hour later. Captain tv. Jarmin, of the pilot staff,, acted as mate, and the crew had behaved magnificently. Heavy winds and seas were encountered, making conditions the worst he bad experienced. They were particularly bad for the engine-room crew.
