This year the champion sire is Spearfelt, who descends in tail male from Musket, through Spearhead, Spearmint, and Carbine. Spearfelt stands at the Alma Vale Stud (where Mr. Standfast is also at service) aud up till the close of last season his progeny had won £183,461 In stake money. Though a winner of the V.K.U. Derby and St. Leger, the Melbourne Cup, the King’s PJate (two miles), the Governor’s Plate, and many other good class races, Spearfelt was neglected by 'breeders when retired to the stud in Victoria, aud was sent up for auction at Randwick where he was bought by Mr. T.
