TRIBUTE TO NURSERY HELPERS
■\n enjoyable afternoon was spent recently when Mrs. A. T. Wells entertaincd members of the Island Bay circle oi the Women's National .Reserve at her home. The amount raised by the art union for the handsome inlaid box presented by Dlr. and Mrs. Wells was announced, and pleasure was expressed at the sum reached, a total of £6O (the value of the box). In addition to this, circle members gave a sum of £6/10/-, making a total amount of £6O/10/- to baud to the treasurer. Mrs. Porter, president of the Residential Nursery, spoke of Mrs. Wells’s sustained help since the days of the last war. Tribute was paid to her not only for her interest throughout the years but for her generous hospitality and various personal gifts to the nursery. The work also of Miss Helen "Wiltshire as secretary has been deeply appreciated, her initiative and enthusiasm, aided by that of Mrs. Seabrook-Mason and members of the circle, has resulted in a fine achievement. Miss Sheppard, secretary of the nursery, enumerated the various .handsome gifts made by the circle, among them being a fully-equipped playground that is of great value.
Owing to-the ill-health of the president and secretary, its members, on Mrs. Porter’s suggestion, agreed to the circle’s being disbanded for the duration of the war.
