Commander Appointed
HONOLULU, September 19. Lieutenant-General Robert Richardson, Commander of the Hawaiian Department, has been designated Commander of the Army forces in the Central Pacific Area. The Associated Press says that the expanded jurisdiction of the army command in Hawaii is viewed by army sources as an indication that Hawaii will become an important springboard for an accelerated offensive against Japan. The commander here, Lieutenant-Gen: eral Robert Richardson, received his assignment as commander of the army forces in the Central Pacific immediately after the Quebec conference.
