THE RACING WORLD

WANGANUI SPRING MEETING Concluding Day At Marton (By St. Simon.) The cuiieluding day of Hie Wanganui Joek-ev Club's spring meeting at Marion today" is Hie oll '.v race meeting ill the North Island. Another full curd will Ln presented, with divisions arranged tor H> tlie Trial Handicap and Spring Handicap, but there is every prospect of tlie firstmimed event being run in one race. The feature event today will lie '■ Wanganui Guineas, for three-jeiir-olUs, run over a mile. The bulk ot tan Held ot 17 are still eligible for hack class, but several in this category have shown improving form lately and an even contest appears likely. Olga’s Pal appears tn lune lost form, and of the others who distinguished themselves in two-year-olc. racing la«t season, Virtuoso should have the best prospects. Screen will not fulfil her engagement. Among the hacks who have shown up hr recent racing, Royal HojG second in the Avondale Guineas, and Greek Art, winner of the only two races he has contested, will command the best tollowing. Of the others, there might be possibilities in Carn forth. Our Pal, Dull Stream, Good Bay andMagnus Lux. Some fresh horses will be contesting the Higgle Handicap, but Marangai Handicap running suggests that Sanction will have an excellent chance. Full Hand, Flying Hawk, Amigo, Te Kawiti and Nightray all went good races on the first day, and Aqueduct might improve with his race last week. Of the fresh horses Nighean should be the best. , , Flying Ace will make strong appeal in the Owen Handicap, for he was the unlucky runner in the main sprint last week won by Whackie. A rise of 91b. might not stop the last-named winning again, for he is proved under weight and handles heavy going better than most. Betterman and Black Robe read best of the others. Hunting Mac, Moderate and Borak will be fancied again in the Gonville Hurdles, and Monmouth should dispute the fesue with them with the benefit of last week’s experience, which was his first attempt as a hurdler. Vera Lvnn, Keen Play, Te Awe Awe, Sports Flash, Sir Fox and Lady Spiral are the likely form horses in tlie, race for apprentice riders, and in the Trial Handicap, Conspicuous stands out on first day form, with Toora Vale, Fort Royal, and Joseph Conrad the likely candidates to contest the issue with the favourite.

If reserved for the Moutoa Hack instead of running in the Biggie Handicap, Young Jim would make si rung appeal, but in his absence the most favoured would include War Effort, Sovereign Lad (who received a bad run on the first day). Gold Dip, Jovial Lass and Flahuluk. The last-named’ needed the race he had last week and should be more forward today. The concluding event, run over live furlongs, most likely will be divided. Fox Cover, Powys. Great Draw, Viking Path and Pennyroyal look the pick of the first division, and in the second division those in demand will include Enlarge, Good Bay, Man-power, Shall Jeiian, High Ideal, Century, Gay Falcon and Cauda Lux. Early in -the week the track was improving, but there lias been further rain and the going is again likely to be heavy, though not so bad as on the opening day. Betting will be win-and-place, and the following horses are likely to be supported :— Gonville Hurdles—Borak, Hunting Mac, Moderate. Apprentices’ Handicap—Vera Lynn, Keen Play, Lady Spiral.
