LONDON, March 7. Australia’s Minister for External Alfairs, Dr. Evatt, disclosed today tffiu when the first flight of Spitfires was being sent to Australia it was diverted to the Middle East on the way to help to drive Rommel out of Egypt. The planes were diverted with the Australian Government’s consent, and they played a vital part in the buttle for Egypt before resuming their journey to Australia. . Dr. Evatt said that the presence ot the Spitfires in Australia had cheered the hearts of his people. The name Spitfire hud become u glorious one. "Our land is gradually emerging from the shadow of disaster.into the sunlight of victory, pence, and rehabilitation, he said. “The Spitfires will share m the process of transformation, and salvation.”
