CYPRUS VISITED BY MR. CHURCHILL

Coming World Victory

LONDON, February 2.

It was announced today that Mr. Churchill visited the Island of Cyprus on his return from Turkey. He was accompanied by the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, General Sir AlanBrooke, and several high officials. The Prime Minister told a representative gathering of the islanders that the United Nations represented incomparably the strongest group of human beings that had ever been marshalled in arms in the whole history of the world. They would march forward from strength to strength till unconditional s-urrender was extorted from those who had laid the world in havoc and ruins. Mr. Churchill paid a tribute to Greece, which in these modern days had revived the fame of ancient times. The sufferings of Greece were terrible, he said, but already one could see the light breaking in the sky which would herald the day when Greece would be delivered from the foul bondage and tyranny by which she was overpressed. After the war, said Mr. Churchill. Cyprus would be included in the list of those countries which would deserve well not only of the united people now in arms, but of future generations of mankind. The Prime Minister inspected troops of the Cyprus garrison.
