Alien Has Car Without Permit. Possession of a motor-car without a permit resulted in Alfred Bruno fetemberg, a medical practitioner, described as an enemy-alien, being fined io, with iu/costs, by -Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. Charged with aiding the offence, George Vernon Huson was fined £‘~, with IV/costs.

Farm Worker Killed. Jack Noble Clark, aged 19, a farm worker nt Moumoukai. Huniia, while working on Thursday evening with several others with a tractor on a ridge to recover a log that had fallen into a gully, slipped 80ft. with tbe tractor into, the gully and received injuries from which he died in the Auckland Hospital yesterday. An ambulance had to cross two streams, and eight helpers worked in relays for au hour and a half carrying the iiuured youth to it. Lower Hutt Hospital. The secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board, Mr. J. B. I. Cook, informed the Makaru County Council in a letter received yesterday that he had been directed to advise that the Government would not be contributing to the erection of tlie Lower Hutt Hospial beyond the usual subsidy of £1 for £1 for capital expenditure. with the exception of the secondary emergency block, which is being built to accommodate soldiers. In this connexion, the letter stated, the Government is meeting the annual interest and repayment of principal on the loan.

Two Gassed in Ship. Two men were overcome by tunics, as a result of which one died, while working in a bold of an overseas vessel where cheese was stored at the Wellington wharves yesterday.
