Charged with the theft of a radio set valued at £lO. Janies McManus, a ship’s steward, was fined £5 by Mr. Stout, S.M., In the Magistrates' Court. Wellington, yesterday. For the theft of a wristlet waten valued at £7/10/-, which lie was stated to have returned when he found the police were making inquiries, John Ernest Love, a motor-drijer. aged 34, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. “This man must have some punishment,’ commented the magistrate in imposing a fine of £5 on Leonard Reeves, a chauffeur, aged 35, for the theft of three gallons of motor spirit, valued at 7/7}. the pronertv of the I’ost and Telegraph Department. It was stated that restitution had been made. Robert William Final! was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for failure to report as a reservist. Defendant had refused to take the oatli of allegiance. Failure t.o register as an alien resulted In Sveto Peter Jakich being fined £lO. with 10/- costs. A fine of £5, with 13/- costs, was imposed on Leslie Sleightliolme for employing a barman without the permission of the manpower officer.
