Two Lots Bring 900 Guineas DEMAND FOR BETTER SORTS Buyers on tlie opening day of the National yearling sales at Trentham yesterday were prepared to pay for the best lots anil those by proved sires and they were also willing to take a chance on tlie stock of one or two ot tlie new sires, but lor anything unfashionable or not well done, or by sires that have not immediately proved successful there was a poor demand and a dragging sale. Newland, the owner of The Champ, also got the other top-priced colt, who cariie into the ring at the end of tlie sale, a fine chestnut colt bv Lang Bian out of Love of Si.ver, the dim of tlie Great Northern Derby winner. The Battle Song colt out of Honoste was bought bv tlie Te Rapa trainer, .1. L. Muir, for a client, at 500gns. The sold well and were typical ot the stock of the leading sire. Wright. Stephenson and Co., as agents, paid bl.igns. for the black colt out of Bay of Islands, and the brown tillv out of Eager Rose, went to Mr. 11 M. Glazebrook, Hastings, at iiOOgns.
