Rankings And Medals The emblem of the United States Marine Corps is a badge with a western hemisphere on an anchor (base, and surmounted by an eagle. Their winter field uniform is of forest green colour. For comparison with the New Zealand scale of rankings, tbe following listing of N.C.O.’s in the Marine Corps is given: One stripe: Private, first-class. Two stripes: Corporal. Three stripes: Sergeant. Three stripes with one. oval underneath : Platoon sergeant. Three stripes with two ovals underneath: First sergeant, or gunnery sergeant. , , , Three stripes with three ovals underneath : Master gunnery sergeant or ser-geant-major. Three stripes with one straight bai underneath: Stafl’-sergennt. Three stripes with two straight bars underneath : Technical sergeant. Three stripes with three straight burs underneath: Master technical, quartermaster or paymaster-sergeant. The diagonal stripes on the sleeve are service stripes, each representing four years of service. Silver medals worn are awarded for marksmanship and efficiency, with a bur for each weapon training course in which (he Marine qualifies. Ribbons are for war decorations or honours.
