CHANGES PROPOSED
British Nationality Law
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 2.
The Government has decided that certain alterations in the law of British nationality are necessary for reasons directly connected with the war, and a Bill was Introduced in the House of Lords yesterday for that purpose. In particular, it is proposed to improve the facilities for the acquisition of British nationality by persons of British descent serving with the armed forces of the Crown. It is also proposed to amend the law so as to put posthumous children born abroad in the same position as they would have been had their fathers been alive at the time of birth. The position of such children is particularly poignant in wartime. It is further proposed to give effect to a pledge by the Prime Minister on July 4, 1940, to facilitate the acquisition of British nationality by Frenchmen who have decided to take service in the armed forces of the Crown.
