ICE CREAM ZONING

Elimination Of Some Lines Predicted

Zoning of ice cream deliveries is expected to be introduced throughout the Dominion soon, and a probable consequence of this will be the elimination of some lines. Addressing the recent conference of the New Zealand Wholesale Ice Cream Manufacturers’ Association in Wellington, Mr. 11. M. Christie. North Island Zoning Officer, said that, though real hardship might be caused, immediate curtailment of mileage was necessary, even to the extent of possible total elimination if the position grew worse, and it would be a long time .before the tyre position would become easier. All ice cream ■ manufacturers, from the smallest to the largest, irrespective of whether they were members of the association, must immediately conform to the zoning plans which were being prepared and submitted by the association for his approval. Of the many obstacls confronting the ice cream industry, observed Mr, H. R. Ayers, secretary of the association, yesterday, the zoning requirement was one which would produce repercussions on the retailers and consumer alike.. It was apparent that manufacturers would have to curtail their novelty lines, possibly limiting them to one small carton, on Cd. carton and the elimination of all flavours in the bulk ice crea .e other than vanilla which had l>een the consumer’s favourite for many years.
