BREWING OF BEER
Reported New Regulations (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. It is reported that regulations will soon be issued giving the Minister of Customs power to order breweries to brew beer to 1036 specific gravity. The Minister, Mr. Nordmeyer, questioned tonight about this reported decision of the War Cabinet, declined to comment. , "Unquestionably,” Mr. Nordmeyer replied when asked whether the reduction in alcohol content had caused an improvement in the community’s sobriety. Mr, Nordmeyer said, police reports indicated a general improvement. It had been said that that was due to less beer being consumed, but he believed the improvement was due to the lower alcohol content. Figures were not yet available on which any announcement could be sustained that a smaller quantity of beer was being drunk.
