LIVE STOCK SALES ADDINGTON

(By Telegraph—Press Acsoeiation.) „ CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. At the Addington market entries were smaller than usual, with an advance in most tat stock values. The store aheep entry totalled 1813 and prices declined by i/- a head. Halfbred ewe hoggtes made 28/9 and’wether hogget 20/-. Top price for ewes was 29/9. for a pen of 89 four-year-old hall’breds in lamb to Southdown rams. A lino of 32ii four and five-year-olds in lamb to English Leicester rams made 24/(1. A pen of ewes and lain'bs made 14/9, all counted. Best ewes made from 24/6 to 29/9; medium to good. 17/.- to 21/-; inferior, to 14/-.

Because of the reduced fat sheep entry there was an all-round keen demand and. as the yarding of wethers did not satisfy the trade, ewes were sought after more than usual, resulting in a rise of up to 3/’ a head. Highest price for ewes was 35/7, a-line of 98 making from 33/< to 35/< and averaging 34/6. One line of 108 longwoolled wethers sold from 40/1 to 47/10 and averaged 46/6. Another of 51 sold from 45/10 to 48/4 and averaged 47/-. The fat cattle entry was much below’ the numbers of recent weeks, the- total penned being 430. The quality was exceptionally good. The market opened at an advance for all classes of. from 20/-. to 25/a head, and though there was some easing toward the end of the sale it coiud be considered the best of the year. One truck of slmrthorn cross steers averaged £23/13/6 anil nine heifers averaged £l5 10/-. Highest price for heifers was £22 17/6. Others of show class, made up to £2O. Best beef made from 43/- to 45/- per 1001 b.: good, 40/- to 42/6; medium, 38/to 39/6: secondary, down to 34/-. The porker entry was very small and values from the outset were higher by.7/to 9/- a head. Choppers also were in small supply and all classes advanced by about £1 a head. Baconers were also limited and prices exceeded the excellent sale of last week. The average price per lb. for porkers was Bjd. to lOd. and for baconers 7Jd. to B*d. WANGANUI Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, August 12. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report that, except for a heavy entry of dairy cows and heifers, entries in all sections at the Wanganui stock sale were light. Fat sheep were fully firm at late rates, as also were store sheep. Fat cattle were just a shade easier with all stores, firm. Dairy cattle were inclined to drag and generally realizations were slightly below last week. Pigs met a verykeen sale, with practically 'the whole of the yarding going to outside buyers. Vealers were firm at high rates. Quotations;— Sheep: Fat wethers, 30/- to 33/-: prime ewes. 25/- to 27/6; fat hoggets/ 23/- to 25/9: light. 20/- to 31/-; aged breeding ewes, late lambing, 8/10 to 16/-; cull ewes, 8/- to 12/8. The Associated Auctioneers report that on their weekly Masterton sale today a large entry of all classes of sheep came forward and attracted a large attendance, including several outside buyers. The fat sheep yarded were of much better quality than those at the last sale and prices for good fat ewes showed an appreciation in values. Ono pen of prime heavy ewes made 26/9, while a pen of heavy fat wethers fell to the bid of 36/6. The store sheep entry attracted keen competition, and though at auction one or two pens, of ewe lambs were passed In, they were sold as the sale progressed. Woolly’ lambs sold readily and. two to three pens of m.a. ewes r.w. S.D. ram made good late sale rates, selling to 24/6. A total clearance was effected under the hammer.
