Ito Champ ran well in his tw ; o races, and is on the improve.

W Broughton will not be riding at Rlccarton on Saturday, and A. Jenkins will have the mount on Rakanui.

Good .Fields. - Excellent acceptances were received tor the second day at Riecarton on Saturday, and there are some fresh horses engaged that did not run on the first day.

Will Be Backed. ' Gladynev ran a sound race in the M inter Cup and he lias been left in the Islington Handicap, the distance of which will be more to his liking than a mile Rakanui will be a well-hacked runner also la the Islington Handicap.

Over Seven Furlongs. Poutatau ran well for seven furlongs in the Winter Cup. and will be more at home over the seven furlongs of the August Handicap but on Winter Cup running it looks more like All Night and Compeer, while Stabilize will also, have friends.

Anglo-French. Anglo-French is rather a surprise acceptor for the Lincoln Steeplechase, as it was reported that he would not run at the meeting after he injured himself through falling at the Hunt meeting.

Clansman's Rider. ... R. J. •‘Mackie, who rode Clansman in the Grand National Steeplechase, is in camp, but it Is expected that he will be able to ride the gelding again in the Lincoln Steeplechase. May Dq Better. Native Song meets Authoress on a stone better terms in the Spreydon Hurdles on Saturday than he did in the Trial Hurdles, and he may be able to give her more solid* opposition on this occasion. Good Jumpers Do Not Mind. When Foxiana, did not school over the steeplechase country proper at Riecarton during the final trials, many of the local track, watchers were sceptical of his chances on the day of the race, but they forgot that Morris never asked Clarion Call to jump the big country either in the years that he won. If a horse is well schooled and a proficient jumper he will, if he is solid, jump all right on the day. Veteran's Death. Died at Feilding a few days ago, Mr. Frank Watson, retired trainer, aged 70. At one time a well-known jockey in the Dunedin district, Mr. Watson as a trainer had several good horses, one of them being the Advance horse Square Deal, winner of the Manawatu Cup in 1916.

Lost at Start. Triple Crown was quietly fancied by several good North Island judges-as likely to show up in the Winter Cup. but she was backing away when the. tapes rose, and lost any chance she may have had. For the New Season.

Among those working on the Riecarton tracks is the three-year-old colt King Herod, who will be well forward for spring racing.

Minority. Minority claims a dual engagement on Saturday being in both the Islington and August Handicaps. Minority, ran a good race in the Winter Cup after being one of the last to leave the mark, but it is doubtful if he relished the extra two furlongs of a mile and a quarter journey. National Hurdles.

Erndale promises, to start a warm favourite for the Grand National Hurdle Race, but he has several opponents who will trouble him if he does not do everything. right. Foxiana cannot be left out of calculations, and many Awapuni track watchers think that Renascor will be in the picture, while Kanui te Pai and Pekoe have many friends. On the running of the Sydenham Hurdles Alienate has more than an outside, chance. Juvenile Parade,

There will be a two-year-old parade at Riecarton on .Saturday. A . likely early comer among the local youngsters there is Good Friend, a filly by Man’s Pal—KnockIvn, owned by Mr. H. S. Williams and trained by F. D. Jones. The youngster is a half-slfiter to the 1935 Stewards’ winner Knockfin.
