SCATTERED TARGETS
Wellington Air Gunner (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Special Correspondent.) LONDON, July 18. Sergeant Air gunner N. H. McKay, Wellington, was in three raids over Germany before he went to Egypt, where he carried out 37 raids with Benghazi as his chief target, and also raided Piraeus, Rhodes and Derna. He said: “Derna was the most exciting raid, for we dive-bombed from a height of 8000 feet, pulling out at 500 feet, whereupon the searchlights and ack-ack guns on the escarpment behind the town almost had to fire down on us. I was fairly certain I shot out a searchlight on that trip.” McKay paid a tribute to the excellent. aircraft repair service the R.A.F. has established in Egypt. The commanding officer of his squadron was Squadron Leader K. F. \ are, Wellington, who returned to England and was succeeded by Squadron Leader D. R. Bagnall, Auckland.
