ARMY PROMOTION

Brigadier F. L. Hunt, N.Z.S.C. A report of a court-martial held iu Suva recently stated that the, president of the court was Brigadier F. L. Hunt, N.Z.S.C. This is the first published advice received in New Zealand of the appointment of this ofllcer to the rank of brigadier.

Brigadier Hunt, is one of the bestknown regular soldiers in New Zealand, having served in many areas from 1919 to 1939. His association with the Army extends over 30 years. He began as a Dunedin City Guards volunteer in 1909, joined the Territorial Force when it started iu 1911, and was commissioned. He went to the Great War, as lieutenant, with the Sth Reinforcement, Otago Regiment, and was severely wounded on Gallipoli. He was mentioned in dispatches. After being invalided to England, he returned to New Zealand and was appointed to tile New Zealand Staff Corps, holding appointments in Invercargill, Dunedin, Oamarn, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Auckland and Wellington. When this war began he was area officer, No. 5 area (Wellington district and Hutt Valley). His initiative aud capacity for work were invaluable iu the early pressure resulting from the rush of volunteers.
