RED CROSS SHIP SUNK
Air Attack When Returning From Greece LONDON, July 17. It is officially announced that the steamer Stureborg, which the Swedish Red Cross chartered to carry food supplies to Greece, was sunk in an air attack in the Mediterranean. Nineteen members of the crew are missing. The Sturebore had delivered between 2000 and 3000 tens of wheat to Greece end was returning to Haifa when she was sunk. The Stureborg was originrliy chartered by Britain, bn' was lent ‘o the Red Cross as a contribution to the relief of the Greeks.
It is stilted authoritatively in Loncon that no Allied aircraft were in the vicinity of the nlace of sinking. Tlie International Red Cross had received a safe conduct for the»ship from Hie German and Italiav Governments, and she was clearly marked and al) formalities had been comnlied with.
