New Zealanders’ Role (Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) CAIRO, July 17. New Zealanders have again been tiie spearhead of an Eighth Army attack, and with bayonet, tommy-gun, Bren gun and grenade they launched a large-scale attack against an objective in tlie central sector, where tlie enemy was heavily armed, witli superior numbers. I'hat was last Thursday night. On grounds of .security it lias not been •possible till now to tell the story of Hie gallant way tlie New Zealanders took tlie vital ridge in one of the largest and most tiercely-la.inched infantry allacks of the desert war. Information about the New Zealanders’ action is so far scrappy. A New Zealand dispatch rider who reitimed to Cairo early this morning said it was believed that die New Zealanders captured :i substantia) number of prisoners.
