Adjournment To

June 24

ESTIMATES MAIN BUSINESS

The fourth short section of the present session of Parliament ended on Saturday with an adjournment till June 24. The Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, said before the House adjourned that he could not guarantee a week ahead that members might not be called together sooner; they might be recalled at an hour’s notice.

When the House met again in June, said Mr. Fraser, the main estimates would be ready and i they could be proceeded with. If the House met earlier, members would have to return to deal with the estimates, which would be the main business of the'session.

The public 'were excluded from the galleries during an explanation by the Prime Minister of the estimates or war expenditure and a discussion on the manpower situation. The other business transacted on Saturday included the Prime Minister’s reply to the financial debate and the passing of the War Damage Amendment Bill and the Customs Acts Amendment Bill.
