RUGBY, December I.’ In the offensive on German ports last night by strong forces of the Bomber Command, the heaviest attack was at Hamburg, where over 150 tons of bombs were dropped in bright moonlight. Large fires were left burning. Emden also was attacked by a powerful force, and objectives at Kiel, Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven, and Lubeck were bombed. Mines were laid in enemy waters. Nineteen of our aircraft are missing. Coastal Command aircraft made lowlevel attacks on enemy shipping off the Dutch coast during the night. Hits were obtained on a tanker and on several medium-sized supply ships, one of which was left sinking. Details given by the Air Ministry news service show that some fairly large enemy supply ships were attacked by Hudsons and Beauforts of the Coastal Command. Tn several cases, explosions, smoke, and fire were seen as the aircraft wheeled round after thudding their delayed-action bombs into the hulls of the ships from mast height. The official German news agency stated that British bombers flew over north Germany last, night and dropped bombs in residential districts, damaging' many houses. Several persons were killed or injured. i The Polish crew of one of the missing bombers have been rescued and are safe in Britain.
