MEAT DELIVERIES

Question Of Cessation Discussed (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 1. The question of discontinuing meat deliveries because of the shortage of labour and the petrol restrictions was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Master Catchers’ Association tonight, when it was decided to take no action as a body but to leave the matter to individual decision. About 40 members of the association attended the meeting. Various speakers stressed the difficulties arising from the shortage of manpower and the effects of tlie petrol restrictions. It was felt that there must be considerable curtailment in deliveries in the New Year when so many of the young men remaining in the trade would be required to enter Territorial camps for annual training. No general cessation of deliveries was decided upon, however, as many master butchers.thought they should continue giving service as long as they were able.

The’meeting also received a letter from the National Council of Women protesting against the decision to close butchers’ shops on the Saturdays of the two holiday weeks at Christmas and New Year. This question was further considered and it was decided that it would be impossible to open and serve the people as usual in the time allowed under the award.

Two Catholic priests, Jlonsignor Cullen, Hawera, and Father Minogue, New Plymouth, completed their first 25 years in the priesthood last week. There were celebrations of their silver sacerdotal jubilees in their respective parish churches, at which Archbishop O'Shea attended.
