National Savings - Accounts

In an interview, Air. T. N. .Small wood, chairman of the New Zealand National Savings Committee, referred to tbe campaign for 250,000 national savings accounts launched ou Juue t), and stated that it was his proud privilege to announce that this goal had been reached—2so,lol accounts had been opened. Air. Smallwood said that to know that a quarter of a million people were prepared to back our fighting forces with their savings gave cause for confidence, but added that though the figure was large, it was felt that there were still many persons who could, if they wished, open an account.

“Steady progress is being made in the war savings campaign,” said Alt-. Smallwood, “and already the co-opera-tion of local committees, of which about 100 have been formed, is being reflected in rising receipts. For this financial year, that is, between April 1 and October 31, receipts from national savings bonds and deposits in accounts amounted to £1,981,536, making a total since tiie campaign started in October. 1940. of £3,302,992.”
