CLEVER PANTOMIME

Produced, Staged And Acted By Dental Nurses

Written by one dental nurse, produced by another, rehearsed by nurses in their spare time, and presented at their own expense, a clever pantomime, illustrating to children the necessity for looking after their teeth, was warmly applauded when presented in the Concert Chamber of the Wellington Town Hall, yesterday, afternoon by nurses of the Dental Clinic. The audience comprised the staff of the Dominion Training School for. Dental Nurses, nurses attached to clinics in and around Wellington, and student nurses.x . , The girls had designed and painted their own scenery and. had assembled a variety of colourful costumes, tuneful songs and witty dialogue, that could not fail to appeal to an audience of children for whom the show is intended. All children from schools in Wellington who attend the dental clinics are invited to the free performance in the Concert Chamber this afternoon. It has been with this end in view that the nurses have spent weeks in rehearsal and the result justified their efforts, for the performance yesterday was most enjoyable. The story told in simple language and mime how a small boy, Tony, allowed the Germ Army to invade his teeth because he did not keep them clean, and how he added to his naughtiness by sucking his thumb. The, Toothbrush Army, spick and span, in blue and white, defeated the evil Decay Spirits, in their black and scarlet suits. When Tony reformed and promised to use his toothbrush, he was crowned Knight of the Ivory Kingdom by the. King and taken to fairyland and themagic woods. The cast included Little 80-Peep, the Old Woman in the Shoe and her children, Golliwog, Spider, Bertie Germ, Pixies and Fairy Queen, among many others. Attractive ballets were plentiful and the many songs were sung with enthusiasm. The opening number, “It’s Foolish But Its Fun,” was followed by a scene in Tony’s nursery. Other scenes included a police court setting, meeting of the armies, Ivory Castle and Woodland. For the woodland ballet Tschaikowsky’s “Swan Lake” was played. The final chorus was “We’re Glad That You Have Come Along.” . . x-. Every scene and action m the pantomime was created for the purpose of bringing- vividly to childish minds the urgent need there is for all boys and girls to give their teeth constant care and attention.
