PEDESTRIAN CONTROL
Commissioner Concerned At Prevalence Of Accidents
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November IS. “I am very concerned at the continued prevalence of pedestrian accidents.” stated the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson, in a letter received by the .executive committee of the South Island Motor Union tonight. The letter was in reply to a request that the regulations and by-laws affecting pedestrians should be enforced in the same way as those, governing motorists. The commissioner stated that special consideration was being given to pedestrian control and he Would advise the union as to what action it would be found possible to take. The union stated in its letter that it was very apparent that many pedestrians ignored their responsibilities while using lhe roadway and it was definitely of opinion that in fairness to other road users and in the interests of safety stricter control should be exercised over them. The union suggested that greater police assistance in handling this matter would prove very effective.
