SYDNEY TRIP IN VIEW

Plans For Beau Leon UNBEATEN RECORD OF SILVER MIST Foreign Coin Changes Trainers By St. Simon. Beau Leon, winner of the Waikato Cup on Saturday, may do his autumn racing in Australia. He is being nominated for the Sydney Cup and other important events at the Bandwick Easter meeting, but . whether he goes will depend on his making a good showing in either ttie Auckland Cup or the Wellington Cup. Last year as a three-year-old Beau Leon finished third in the Auckland Cup to Beau Vite and Old Bill. In the spring of last season Beau Leon was selected to develop into one of the best stayers among those of his.age, but he did not come up to expectationdin the Wellington Guineas or the Derby, though he was the unlucky runner in theßiccarton classic and finished a close third. He won the Waikato Cup impressively, and at his previous start w’as untroubled to win the King George Handicap at Ellerslie.

Met Interference. . The Champ met interference in .tne closing stages of the Seymour Handicap at Riccarton, in which he finished third, and K. Eord, rider of Chandelier, who finished second, was called before the judicial stewards to answer a charge ot being responsible for the interference. The stewards found that the trouble was caused accidentally. The Champ is a good hack, but still undeveloped, and he should improve with a spell from active racing between now and the Auckland Cup meeting.

Yogi Stopped. A southern writer says that Yogi, favourite for the Metropolitan Handicap on Saturday, had liis chance spoilt through being stopped in the last furlong when making a run on the inside. The check was caused through The Raker being crowded.

Coming North. , L. J. Ellis and C. T. Wilson, two of the leading Riccarton lightweights, will be ridiug at the Levin meeting this week.

Won Unbacked. Pay Roll was the least fancied of three runners from her stable in the Members Handicap which she won at Riccarton on Saturday, and she was not backed by hei owner Mr.- T. Newman, who stated before the race that in view of her several disappointing races, he would throw her out of commission and retire her to the stud next season if she did not show improvement. Pay Roll was affected by seasonal trouble earlier in Cup week.

May Not Run. , . Te Mama, an acceptor for Levin tomorrow, may not run, as she has not thoroughly recovered from a cold which affected her during the Wellington spring, meeting.

Unbeaten to Date. Silver Mist, who won a double at the Wa.kato meeting, has an unbeaten record to date, for her only previous- start resulted in her maiden success at Poverty Bay. She did not race as a two-year-old. Silver Mist is a three-year-old chestnut iiliy by Kincardine from Meynell, by Hunting Song from Barcarole, a Martian ware who was the dam of Birkrole (dam of the* steeplechaser Birkolbgy), Humoresque (dam of Megaphone and Love Lilt), Town Major, Rose Willonyx, and Boatsong. Silver Mist is raced by Mr K. Mcintos-h, and trained by W. D. Turnbull at Gisborne. She was not listed as an acceptor in any of the acceptance lists published for the first day’s racing at Te Rapa, and she won at double figures.

Well Related. . Eox Brae, runner-up to Qrakau in the juvenile event at Waikato on Saturday, is trained in the same stable as the winner, and is a halt-brother by Eoxbridge to Beau Leon. He carries the same colours as the Cup winner, those of Mr. E. 11. Cucksey.

Soundness Doubled. Chief Lord, who showed considerable promise with his graduation to open class by winning the Stratford Cup lust summer, is back in work again at Hawera, but doubts are expressed about his standing up to a preparation. He wrenched himself when pulling up after winning the Stratford Cup and had to be spelled. Lost No Friends.

An Auckland correspondent says that Lou Rosa lost no friends in his defeat in the Waikato Cup on Saturday. He drew the extreme outside of a big held, and had to be hard ridden to secure a position leaving the straight. From that point he was forced to race on the outside of two and sometimes three runners. He is expected to make amends at an early date, as be looks in good order. Clifford Returns. L. 11. Clifford, who left New Zealand to ride in South Africa, and latterly has been riding in Mauritius, has returned to New Zealand. He has applied for a licence and will be present at Levin tomorrow.

With the Forces. The Auckland hurdle horseman, H. C. Maria, has handed in his - jockey’s licence to the New Zealand Racing Conference, us he is leaving shortly with the forces for overseas. Back in Old Stable.

Foreign Coin has been handed back to P. Burgess to prepare for autumn racing. The Wanganui Guineas winner did badly during the Wellington spring meeting, and is not likely to- race for some time. Burgess trained him as a two-year-old when he won the Wellesley Stakes. Riders at Levin.

Riding engagements announced for the Lovin mooting are: —it. Bucknell, Wakararn, Makarora; C. A. Bowry, Flying Spray; E. Stewart, Lady Boswal; K. Chote, Gay Dancer, Laay Motava; J. Garth, Maharajah; P. Burgess, Dalesman ; IL P. Stewart, Beau Ciel.
