Honours Board Unveiled At Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Queen Margaret College Old Girls’ Association was held at the college in Wellington last night. There was a good attendance of staff members and old girls. Miss I. Wilson, principal Of the college, was present, and Miss E. Hatch, president of the association, was in the chair. A feature of the meeting was the unveiling of the Old Girls’ Association honours board, by Miss Wilson, who briefly spoke about the service each girl had given to the community. The following names havo been added this year: P. Dawson, L. Ennis, J. Hunter, B. Mac Diarmid, M. Poole. The annual rejwrt stated that the rm m her of life-members was now 64, an increase of 21 since last yea.r. .A resume of the meetings and social gatherings was given. Once a month sewing evenings have been held to do work for refugees and for the Navy. Old girls had helped twice during the year with the Y.M.C.A. soldiers’ teas. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mrs. E. D. Ulrich; honorary president, Miss I. Wilson; honorary vice-presidents, Miss I. Hirst, Miss 1. Horner, Miss D. Kersley; president, Miss Edna Hatch; vice-presidents, Miss Betty Menard, Miss P. Dawson; secretary, Miss Ernestine Winstone; treasurer, Miss Phyllis Edie; executive, Misses E. Hopkirk, J. Paterson, J. de .Woolf, J. Cairney, A. Eichelbaum. Miss Wilson announced the winner of ‘the Old Girls’ Association Scholarship for 1942, Mary Hopkirk.

£lOO Raised for Red Cross. The Tawa Flat Red Cross subcentre recently held a paddy’s market, when more than £lOO was raised. Airs. J. Duncan, on behalf of the president, Mrs. Rolston, welcomed Mr. Brian O’Brien, who opened the market. The organizers, Mesdames Sutherland and Patchett, with their committee of help ers, wish to thank everyone who helped in any capacity to make the effort such a success.

Home of Compassion Gift Tea. This afternoon, the annual gift tea of the Home of Compassion, Island Bay, will be held from 2 till 4 o’clock. The public is cordially invited and is assured of a .profitable and pleasant afternoon.

£5O From Jumble Sale. The excellent sum of £5O was raised at the jumble sale held by the Wellington Free Kindergarten Council last evenly®. Friends gave the effort every support and. members were gratified with the result.

Studio Dance. A dauce will be held tonight at the Gwenethe Walshe studio from 8 o’clock, all pupils and friends being warmly invited to attend.

EXPERT FURRIER ARRIVES.

Mr. W. Marcel, the well-known expert. furrier, will shortly open a new branch in the Grand Hotel Buildings, Willis Street, Wellington. Mr. Marcel arrived in Napier in 1925 and opened a business. Coming to Hawke’s Bay with a lifetime experience in the fur world, Mr. Marcel brought a knowledge of trade which quickly enabled him to commend a large clientele who had every confidence in his work and goods. Always of the finest value and quality with a trading experience in Baris and later in London, Mr. Marcel came straight to Napier to test his skill in a new world. Business grew as a result of the wonderful values given and more commodious premises were secured. The 1931 disaster destroyed everything but, notwithstanding, Mr. Marcel re-established himself and today Las a most modern shop and workrooms tn Emerson Street. Mr. Marcel purchased his furs in the London market where the world's best, values are offered and his buyers, knowing that he desires nothing but first-class skins, are careful in their selection of finest pelt« only.—-P.B.
