“WARSHIPS WEEK”
(British Official Wireless.) (Received October 19, 7 p.m.) RUGBY, October 18. Birmingham will be able to “adopt” the battleship King George the Fifth if the £10,009,000 mark is reached in the “Warships Week” campaign which opened there and a number of other areas today. Glasgow will try to beat Birmingham’s aim of £10,000,000. Sheffield is aiming at £2,000,000 —the price of a cruiser. “Warship Weeks” will be held till the end of March. Over £10,000,000 has been donated to Britain to provide bombers and fighters for the Royal Air Force. It is made up of countless thousands of individual contributions from all parts of the British Commonwealth.
