Far East Mission
A lecture entitled “Far Eastern Reminiscences” was given at the Salvation Army Citadel. Vivian Stree., yesterday afternoon by Lt.-Colonei Herbert Lord, a missionary officer who is visiting New Zealand. Commissioner J. Evan Smith presided. and in welcoming the colonel, said that the, advances made by the Salvation Army were largely due to the emphasis placed on its missionary work, which not only benefited those to whom missionaries were sent but also had a good effect on those countries who sent officers to the mission fields at the cost of much sacrifice. Many interesting facts about Korea and Malaya, particularly Singapore, were conveyed by Colonel Lord. Starting alone six years ago the colonel gradually gainel the confid_<ince of. the Government, municipal authorities and the public of Singapore, and now the Salvation Army is engaged in extensive relief work, looks after exprisoners and deserted children, has opened a jeseue home for women, and also carries on aggressive evangelical work. The latest activity is a Red Shield Club for servicemen which is ■proving very popular.
