INFANTILE PARALYSIS VIRUS
Carriage By Common Flies
DISCOVERY BY AMERICAN DOCTORS (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received October 17, 11.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 16. Dr. John Paul and Dr. James Trask, of Yale Medical School, have reported to the American Public Health Association the discovery that common flies carry the virus of infantile paralysis from one human to another. This is based on an earlier discovery that the virus of poliomyelitis was carried in sewage. The exact species of flies has not been determined, but they suspect'the green bottlefly and similar species, possibly including the common housefly, which feed on manure. It is now evident that infantile paralysis is a disease of the intestinal tract as well as the spinal cord.
